During the pandemic of 2021, I started using Procreate to experiment and develop my personal art style. Therefore, I decided to open a small sticker business. Under my brand name, MarissaNieto.Co is a creative playground for me to make something from anything that I become inspired by.
Backstory
Before I started my sticker shop, some of my earliest illustrations were featured on my verified Giphy Channel. Within a few months, my channel blew up and people contacted me if I can make stickers out of the gifs I made. So the journey began here, diving into the sticker business on etsy.
The Journey
Before starting the business, I researched extensively to find a trustworthy manufacturer to mass produce my stickers. As of now I work closely with 2 manufacturers that help me customize certain parts of the stickers based on the type of vinyl material they provide. Using the procreate app opened a new door for me to experiment with my illustration style. And overtime, most of my design inspiration derives from music, my deep interest/curiosity of astronomy, and spending time outdoors.
Sustainability
I'm an advocate when it comes to protecting the planet. So I partnered with noissue's affliate program to promote their compostable/eco-friendly packaging materials that I use for my shop! I encourage any business owner to reduce as much carbon foot-print as possible to help take care of the planet.
Marketing/Advertising
With a growing business, comes with an ever-growing audience. This creative journey has made me connect with other small business owners, and I enjoy giving back to the community by spreading my knowledge to others. It's not easy trying to maintain a side hustle after coming home from a 9-5 to create content, but I'm determined to keep pursuing this passion of mine.
